   Skin Basics: Exfoliate

The basics of your flawless beauty begins with a clean, healthy and  even-toned complexion. Exfoliation is the key.  Dirt, oils and dead skin cells can greatly affect the appearance of healthy skin. They will dull it and give you a more aged look.  By not regularly exfoliating,  your skin's texture  will become rough and attract even more dirt and oil. When the outer dead skin layers build up, your makeup will have an appearance of being caked on as well as block oils from getting out of your skin.  White bumps, blackheads and a whole host of acne can result from not exfoliating your skin regularly.  White bumps can be from a collection of oils that are trapped under the first layer of the skin.  By gently removing this outer layer, you brighten up your complexion while letting your skin breath and exfoliate naturally.  This applies to your whole body as well.

To effectively remove the top layer of dead skin you should purchase a loofah or pair of showering gloves (see picture in right column).  I use showering gloves because its easier and dries fast after each use.  It's simple to use the loofah gloves. While in the shower, let your facial skin absorb the heat from the shower. After about 5 minutes, the  steam will soften the skin's outer layer.  Apply a small amount of your personal body cleanser to the  gloves. I use shampoo for the oil removing capabilities.  Rub the gloves together to make a good lather. Then in small gentle circles glide the gloves over your cheeks, forehead, brows, chin, etc. Rinse your skin. Check the texture of your skin without your gloves. If your skin feels smooth and squeaky clean, you have successfully removed the outer layer of dead skin. If it feels rough, then repeat the process until your facial skin feels soft and smooth to the touch.

Caution: Do not over scrub with the showering gloves or loofah, this can leave the skin red and irritated. The skin should be gently touched. A little practice and you will have it down.

After using the showering gloves, apply your favorite cleansing scrub to remove any dead surface cells that still remain. Applying the scrub in the warm shower will help add moisture back into your skin.

   Skin Basics: Moisturize!

After cleansing and toning, your skin needs to be moisturized. Hydrating your skin will keep it soft and supple as well as help eliminate the appearance of fine wrinkles.

After showering is the best time to hydrate your skin. The moisture content in the air and on your skin is at its highest. Do not completely dry off your skin after a shower. The small water particles will blend better with the eye and facial  creams. This will help retain as much moisture in your skin as possible giving your skin a supple beauty.

Moisturize the outer area of the eye with concentrated creams and serums made especially for eyes. The crows feet area need special attention that eye serums can give. Specific ingredients are made for this delicate section to increase elasticity and resilience. Other areas of the face do not need such a concentrated amount. Lastly, Let your skin air dry completely after the application.
